NDIS Household Tasks and Domestic Assistance in Bayswater and Melbourne's East

A clean kitchen, fresh sheets and a home-cooked meal make a real difference to how your day feels. When disability makes those jobs hard, tiring or unsafe, our NDIS household tasks support helps keep your home comfortable and running the way you like it.

We’re based in Bayswater and provide domestic assistance to NDIS participants across [confirmed service areas]. You stay in charge of how things are done; we’re there to help.

What are NDIS household tasks?

NDIS household tasks are everyday jobs around the home, such as cleaning, laundry and meal preparation, that a support worker helps with when you can’t safely or easily do them yourself because of your disability. This domestic assistance is usually funded through Assistance with Daily Life in your Core supports budget. The NDIS pays for the support worker’s time, not household items like groceries or cleaning products.

Who may benefit from household tasks support

Domestic assistance may suit you if you:

  • want to keep living independently in your own home
  • live with family who currently do most of the housework and need more support
  • are recovering from a change in health and need help for a while
  • want to build skills to manage more household jobs yourself

Is household tasks support covered by your NDIS plan?

Household tasks are commonly funded under Assistance with Daily Life in your Core supports budget. If your Core funding is flexible, you can generally use it across Core categories; if supports are stated in your plan, they can only be used as approved.

The NDIS funds supports that are related to your disability and considered reasonable and necessary, so the amount of help in your plan depends on your circumstances. We can’t guarantee funding, but we’re happy to help you understand your options. You can also read the NDIS guidance on plan budgets.

Frequently asked questions

What household tasks does the NDIS cover?

The NDIS commonly covers help with cleaning, laundry, linen changes, meal preparation and grocery shopping when your disability makes these tasks hard to do safely. What you can use depends on your individual plan.

Does the NDIS pay for cleaning?

Yes, the NDIS can fund a support worker’s time to clean your home if it’s related to your disability and included in your plan, usually under Assistance with Daily Life. It doesn’t pay for cleaning products.

Does the NDIS pay for groceries?

No, groceries and food are everyday living costs and aren’t usually funded. The NDIS may fund the support to shop for, prepare and cook your meals.

Is domestic assistance NDIS the same as household tasks?

Yes. “Domestic assistance” and “household tasks” are both used to describe NDIS-funded help with everyday jobs around the home, such as cleaning, laundry and meal preparation.

How often can I get household tasks support?

It depends on your needs and the funding in your plan. Some people have weekly help, others have support a few times a week. We’ll work out a schedule that fits your budget and routine.

Can you clean the whole house if I live with others?

NDIS-funded household tasks generally focus on your own needs and the areas you use. Support isn’t usually funded for cleaning that other household members would normally do.

Do I need to supply cleaning products and equipment?

In most cases participants supply their own cleaning products, as these aren’t NDIS-funded.
