What is NDIS high intensity support?

NDIS high intensity support is help with daily personal activities that involve complex health-related needs, such as enteral feeding, complex bowel care or tracheostomy care, delivered by workers trained and assessed as competent for each person’s specific care. In the NDIS these are called high-intensity daily personal activities. Providers must be registered for them, and the support must follow a care plan developed with appropriate health professionals.

Training and safety you can rely on

High-intensity supports carry real risks, so how workers are prepared matters. Our approach:

Training specific to you. Workers are trained on your care plan, your equipment and your routines, not just the general task.

Competency checks. Workers are assessed before supporting you on their own, and their skills are kept up to date.

Clear plans. Support follows a written plan developed with you and your health team, such as your GP, nurse, speech pathologist or dietitian.

Consistent teams. Wherever possible, a small team of familiar workers supports you.

Knowing when to escalate. Workers know the signs that need a nurse, doctor or emergency response, and act on them.

High intensity support or nursing: what's the difference?

High intensity supports don’t have to be delivered by a nurse. Trained support workers can provide them when they follow a plan and have been assessed as competent. Some care, such as clinical assessments, developing care plans or certain wound care, needs a nurse. We can work alongside your nursing team, or you can read about our community nursing care.
